On the past 7th and 8th of March 2012, University of Beira Interior and ALLab have welcomed high school students, in order to publicize the work done on the University and Laboratories.

Last Wednesday (14th December 2011) ALLab researchers made a public presentation of their projects from the last year.

The program was as follows:

- Keynote (by Nuno M. Garcia);
- Jump Flight Time Android Application (by Ivan Pires);
- Algorithm to detect heartbeat captured through textile electrodes (by Pedro Tavares);
- SMS server (by Luís Marques);
Web+SMS Interaction System for Lifestyles Monitoring and Training, SIMTEV (by Rafael Couto);
- Wearable wireless device for interface control (By Alexandre Pinheiro);
- Cooperation Program with ESALD (By Alexandre Pinheiro and Rafael Couto).

New paper at the ICEUBI 2011 conference

Researchers Rafael Couto, Alexandre Pinheiro and Nuno M. Garcia have published a paper following a patent submission, at the ICEUBI 2011 international conference. The paper proposes the creation of a wearable wireless device to interface with equipment in surgical theatres. The paper may be found here, and the presentation here.

Jump flight time

ALLab researchers have published an Android application at the Android App Market. The "Jump flight time" application follows the algorithm proposed by Sauvik Das, LaToya Green, Beatrice Perez, and Michael Murphy, "Detecting User Activities using the Accelerometer on Android Smartphones," July 2010, to estimate the time of flight of a user with a smartphone.
